Born in Lagos, Nigeria |
Amarachi grew up always knowing she would venture abroad for her post-secondary education. She chose McMaster University in Hamilton. Later, her whole family moved to Canada in order to experience a better political and social situation. Amarachi likes the variety of activities available in the city and is involved regularly in meetups and couchsurfing. She looks forward to participating in hot yoga through a volunteer energy exchange program, where she exchanges her time cleaning the facilities in exchange for complementary classes. Currently, Amarachi works as a business analyst at a large retail organization, and she is also a writer and photographer for Aesir Republic.
Toronto as Home
Amarachi chose to be photographed in front of the Hibiscus Cafe on Augusta Avenue in the core of Kensington Market. She is working towards living a healthier wholesome lifestyle and this restaurant symbolizes part of that goal. Amarachi likes Kensington Market for its openness to the arts, how ambiguous and the ambitious it is, and it doesn’t hurt that it is also home to her best friend.
Connection with the Past
Amarachi is holding a picture of herself and family at their first home in Lagos, Nigeria. It reminds her of a time of play and simplicity, riding a toy car as her brother and she play in the living room. As the eldest, playing with her siblings has always been a significant and wonderful childhood memory.
