Born in Taipei, Taiwan |
Henry’s family moved here twelve years ago and he remembers not wanting to leave Taiwan when his parents first brought up the idea. When he visits his country of birth, he always looks forward to returning to Toronto. Today Henry works at Toronto Pearson International Airport as a traffic officer for EVA Air, one of Taiwan’s top-tier international Airlines.
Toronto as Home
Henry is standing outside Terminal 1 at Toronto’s Pearson Airport. He explains how working for a Taiwanese airline here in Canada is an amazing feeling. EVA Air is like a direct line to where he comes from. This position, and knowing that the company is based in his country of birth, makes him feel proud.
Connection with the Past
Taiwan is where bubble tea originates, something Henry sees as symbolic of his country.
“On every street and every corner you can find a couple of shops selling the beverage.”
Drinking bubble tea is also a very social experience, and it is where friends go to chat and enjoy each other’s company. Henry’s favourite is the original made with black tea, milk and the tapioca balls. It is simple recipe, but for Henry the taste is incredible.
