Born in Postojna, Slovenia |

Pregnant with her son, Suzana was invited to follow the child’s father whom she had met in Slovenia, back to Canada. They decided to stay in Toronto and married. The relationship didn’t last so Suzana finished high school and later completed an Engineering degree at the University of Toronto. Now more than half of her life has been in the city, a place she feels has given her many opportunities. She travels often and frequently returns to visit family in Slovenia. The fact that Suzana’s son was born and still resides here in Toronto makes the city even more special for her. Currently Suzana works for the Network Integration team at AT&T.

Toronto as Home

While in university Suzana played varsity volleyball, a sport she continues to play today. She believes that if she had stayed in Slovenia this sport would never have become a part of her life.  The beach volleyball courts at Ashbridges Bay are where she spent many weekends during the summer and this place holds many special memories for her.

Connection with the Past

Suzana is holding a photograph of herself standing on top of Caven, the 1186 metres high Slovenian mountain which is part of Trnovo Forest. For the last few years her love for the mountains has grown and more and more she longs to climb them. That particular hike was done in the middle of January and the sun and snow in the middle of the winter made it a unique experience. Climbing mountains brings her much peace and serenity. Each time Suzana returns to Slovenia she tries to explore new mountains; still sometimes she finds herself revisiting ones she hiked at as a child on school trips.
