Born in Cordoba, Argentina |
Valeria followed her heart to Canada. As much as she misses her family back home, her happiest moments, as well as her most difficult challenges, all happened here. She says it would be hard to picture her life anywhere else. This is where she brought her son “the most extraordinary gift of all” into the world and his birth made Toronto truly feel like home. Currently Valeria works as a Cultural Advisor in an ESL school.
Toronto as Home
Valeria feels a strong connection to Trinity Bellwoods Park. Since having her son, she has had many happy moments there playing, picnicking on a polka dot blue mat, and seeing her son grow happy and strong. The park is also the place where she finds peace and quiet when things are difficult and one of the first places she brings her family from Argentina to when they come to visit.
Connection with the Past
Empanadas truly are a taste of Argentina, and so Valeria wanted to be photographed holding a plate of homemade ones. Her grandma, who is the best cook she has ever known, taught her how to make them when she was a child. Grandma never measured ingredients and yet her dishes always turned out just right. While Valeria has become quite good at making them for family celebrations, she admits her’s will never be as good as her grandmother’s. Valeria will always cherish the stories Grandma and she shared in the kitchen.
